At West Dermatology, we realize the impact that aging and wrinkles can have not only your appearance but also on your self-esteem. We talk to patients every day who are seeking solutions that help turn back the clock on their appearance with minimal invasiveness and without horrific after-effects.
We are proud to offer a variety of solutions to help address your concerns, including a range of soft injectable fillers and effective neuromodulators.
Injectable Fillers for Anti-Aging Results
Also referred to as dermal fillers, injectable fillers generally consist of a gel substance that is injected into your skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and erase years from your appearance. Injectables can be made of natural substances, such as hyaluronic acid, or biosynthetic substances (calcium hydroxylapatite, for example) and are designed to fill in wrinkles and hollow-looking areas on your face for a plump, supple effect.
The Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Besides reducing the appearance of wrinkles and restoring a youthful appearance to the skin, injectable fillers are minimally invasive. Unlike surgery, there are no incisions or resulting scars. Many people seeking anti-aging wrinkle treatments choose injectables over surgery because there is less discomfort or pain.
Furthermore, injectables help to stimulate your natural collagen production so that the results can be both immediate and gradual, which is ideal if you want your facial enhancement to look natural. Others will notice the change but might not be able to put their finger on why you look rejuvenated.
Cosmetic injectable fillers replenish your skin, making it fuller and more voluminous by correcting the following issues:
- Softens wrinkles
- Fills in shallow lines
- Minimizes facial creases
- Reduces frown lines between your eyes
- Smooths the lines around your mouth
- Fades lines and wrinkles around your nose
Which Injectable is Best for You?
At West Dermatology, we offer a wide range of filler treatments. Each has its own benefits and is specially formulated to address specific concerns. Some are ideal for the lips or nose while others are more effective around the cheekbones.
In order to determine the best filler for your facial concerns, it is important to consult with a board-certified dermatologist. The following may be the right solution for you!
Fillers for Anti-Aging
Temporary fillers include popular and successful lines like Restylane and Juvederm, which feature hyaluronic acid. These injectables are safe and usually effective for at least a year with some, like Voluma, lasting much longer. They are compatible with your body and create fuller, more natural-looking results. Restylane and Juvederm are commonly used around the mouth, nose, and under the eyes.
Voluma is another filler from Juvederm that features hyaluronic acid. It’s one of the first HA fillers designed to address the cheeks – by filling out hollow areas – and its effects can last for years.
A biostimulatory solution that feature poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) as the main ingredient is Sculptra which increases your body’s production of collagen to firm your skin, improve your skin’s texture, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines.
Neuromodulators are another popular and successful anti-aging treatment that consist of botulinum toxin type A. Neuromodulators are injected in tiny amounts directly into the muscle beneath the skin where a wrinkle is located, which relaxes that muscle and effectively softens and smooths out the wrinkle. Common brands of neuromodulators that you might recognize include Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport.
Following neuromodulator injections, you will notice a rejuvenated, younger-looking you for at least 3-4 months, particularly regarding wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are ideal anti-aging treatments for unsightly wrinkles, lines, and deep creases. It works on the forehead, around the eyes, and the “bunny” lines on and around the bridge of your nose.
Neuromodulators are also commonly used to correct forehead lines and wrinkles that have been caused by years of squinting or furrowing your brow from stress. Just a few injections can soften these creases to restore the naturally smooth appearance of your forehead. They also effectively address crow’s feet for a more bright-eyed, youthful appearance.
Neuromodulator Side Effects
Generally speaking, the side effects of neuromodulators are mild and temporary, requiring little to no downtime. Mild side effects include minor bruising or soreness around the injection site, which may last a few days.
Choosing Between Injectables
A general rule of thumb for non-surgical wrinkle treatments is this:
For the upper part of the face (above the cheekbone and nose), neuromodulators deliver the best results. For the lower part of the face, the temporary injectables mentioned above deliver the results you want. Combining fillers with neuromodulator and even adding lasers and intense pulsed light treatment usually gives the best possible result.
Regardless of which treatment seems to fit your needs, it is crucial that you find a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist to administer any injectable treatment. Discuss your unique case with a dermatologist who has the training, experience, and skills to administer these wrinkle treatments and be sure to review their background and results before any treatment.
