Vbeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser
To be more precise, the VBeam and Cynergy is a pulsed dye laser that shoots an intense but gentle beam of laser light at the optimal frequency absorbed by blood vessels into your skin. The light is absorbed by blood vessels, not by your skin. Your skin is untouched and undamaged; the dilated blood vessels, on the other hand, are destroyed by the pulses of laser energy. The end result is less scarring and bruising than you get with other laser treatments.
The treatment also helps to stimulate the production of new collagen in your skin, which can help in the skin’s natural healing process as well to decreasing the appearance of scars and stretch marks
Is Vbeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser Safe?
As a non-ablative laser, VBeam/Cynergy pulse dye laser does not cut, burn, or otherwise harm your skin. It is one of the safest laser procedures you can undergo; in fact, it’s safe enough that infants and young children have received this innovative treatment for their birthmarks with success and safety.
Since the laser targets selected blood vessels with no harmful effects on the surrounding tissue, patients report that the pulses cause a tingling or stinging sensation on your skin, much like a pinprick or a rubber band snapping on your skin. Beyond that small discomfort, you should not experience any pain, blistering, or scarring. For further comfort, prior to each laser pulse, a cooling device sprays a cool mist or cold air onto your skin. Additionally, you’ll wear safety goggles to shield your eyes from the intense light. Most patients who undergo blood vessel laser treatment do not need anesthesia, but if you’ll feel more comfortable with it, then a numbing agent can be administered about an hour before your procedure.
What Conditions Does VBeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser Treat?
Vbeam/Cynergy pulse dye laser is effective for any form of facial redness, such as excessive redness from dilated blood vessels in your face. Specifically, it can treat the following issues:
- The flushing and redness of rosacea
- Angiomas, small clumps of blood vessels that appear as red dots anywhere on your body
- Red birthmarks, such as port wine stains and hemangiomas
- Stubborn warts and other benign growths
- Scars from acne, injury, or surgery
- Facial veins around the cheeks and nose
- Spider veins
- Age or sun spots
- Venous lakes that form dark blue, bubble-like lumps on your ear, lips, or face
- Stretch marks from pregnancy
Vbeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser Laser Treatments and Results
The number of treatments you need and the results you achieve (including how long the effects last) depend on the condition you have and its severity.
For rosacea treatment, our patients average two to three sessions, although as many as five could be required, after which you should notice 50-75% improvement in the amount of redness. Rosacea is chronic, so one to two treatments a year are recommended to maintain your positive effects.
Port wine stains and other types of red birthmarks usually require five to 10 treatments, after which you can expect 50-100% reduction in the condition. If you’re getting treatment for acne scarring, you’ll need as many as six treatments before noticing firmer, tighter, smoother looking skin.
Vbeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser Side Effects
Before deciding to undergo this laser treatment, tell your doctor if you frequently have cold sores or other herpes simplex-related conditions, as the laser energy can activate the virus and cause another set of issues.
Otherwise, the following are side effects you should expect after this procedure:
- Mild swelling
- Redness (like a sunburn)
- Dry or flaky skin
- Skin darkening (if your treatment is for sun or age spots)
Each of the above is usually mild and will recede in several days (redness and swelling) to a week or two (bruising, skin darkening).
Can Vbeam/Cynergy Pulse Dye Laser Be Combined with Other Treatments?
Yes, the benefits of Vbeam/Cynergy pulse dye laser treatment can be enhanced when combined with a variety of other treatments, as it works very well with botulinum toxin-derived injectable treatments, such as Botox or Dysport, and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, Voluma, Belotero or Restylane. In both combination therapies, the laser treatment is done first. Learn more about Vbeam at Syneron-Candela.com or contact us in one of our locations in Arizona, Nevada or California.
